NSRA Promotes Safe Vehicles
O ne very popular benefit available to rodders joining the National Street Rod Association is FREE—always has been, always will be. As their name so realistically defines them, rods, customs and performance machines are just what you would expect: modified automobiles that are driven on the streets and highways. NSRA is dedicated to safe rodding and safe cars, backing it up with a program that gives every participant the opportunity to have his/her vehicle Safety Inspected as often as they want with a strong emphasis on having it done at least once each year. The NSRA Vehicle Safety Inspection Program is completely voluntary and includes checking 16 safety items ranging from the lighting system to suspension before passing. Seven additional items are also checked and if they pass a Safety 23 sticker is attached to the vehicle windshield. Four additional items are pointed out to the owner that are not required to pass but should be installed for safety reasons. The sole purpose of the Safety
group of dedicated volunteers will have performed well over half-a-million Safety Inspections. While more and more enthusiasts recognize the benefits of having their vehicles Safety Inspected every year, there is one group that is even more keenly aware of the program’s value; the guys and gals that make up the all-volunteer NSRA Safety Inspection Teams. There is at least one team in every state so as many rodders as possible will have the opportunity to take
advantage of their service and expertise. These Safety Inspection Teams provide a very worthwhile service for the NSRA, but what they are offering the individual specialty car owner is much more important—an extra set of eyes to notice what may become a life- threatening condition before it becomes one. There are approximately 600 people
Inspection is to advise the owner of problem areas, either imminent or potential. As an “advisory” inspection, it is only used to call the owner’s attention to something that may have been overlooked or become worn and has no effect on entering or taking part in the event’s rodding activities. Even though this
program is totally voluntary, the number of vehicles inspected grows each year. The NSRA Safety Inspection is available at all NSRA events, and at hundreds of independently produced events across the country. Since the Safety Inspection started in 1980, by the end of 2025 this
involved in making the NSRA Vehicle Safety Inspection Program work, and they are doing more than just talking about rodding safety. They are making it a reality! While here at the 56th NSRA Street Rod Nationals visit the Safety Inspection Area (“A” on the Expo map on page 62) and learn a little more about this great program firsthand. The times for this activity are included in the Event Schedule on page 63. If during the inspection process a problem arises that needs to be fixed immediately before getting back on the street, the great folks at the MHRA Rod Repair Shop are always on hand to help with repairs. Be sure to check them out in Area “D” on the Expo map. Vehicle safety is an important part of our sport, and we hope you are one of our NSRA members who take advantage of this free service.
