Two Long Distance Awards Presented
T wo Long Distance awards are given out at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals each year—the “Long Distance Continental USA” (contiguous or lower 48 states) and “Long Distance Outside the Continental USA.” To be eligible for either of the Long Distance awards the vehicle must have been driven to the NSRA Street Rod Nationals, and it must be in attendance for Sunday’s “Circle of Winners” display and Awards Ceremony that follows. The straight-line (as the crow flies) distance from the entrant’s home address to the event is used to determine the winners in both categories of Long Distance. Jerome Vonder Steep won the “2024 Long Distance Outside the Continental USA” award traveling 4,234 miles from the Nederlands in his ’34 Ford three-window coupe. O n Friday, August 1, at this year’s 56th Annual NSRA Street Rod Nationals, rodders who have enjoyed coming to this event every year for the past 56 years will get together to share past experiences and to celebrate as members of the elite “Made ‘em All” gang.

The “2024 Long Distance Continental USA” award went to Al Rosario from Seaside, CA, who traveled 2,325 miles in his ’34 Ford Vickie.

Hosted by Paul and Sally Benoit, this gathering of extraordinary rodders were there in 1970 when the framework for street rods and outdoor car shows was just getting off the ground. Over the years they have enjoyed plenty of laughter telling stories from years past and the rodding adventures they’re still enjoying today as they circulate around the room visiting and sampling a great array of cookies and drinks.
