47 TH WESTERN Street Rod Nationals
A fter heavy rains and cold temperatures retreat for those attending the 47th Western Street Rod Nationals held at the Kern County Fairgrounds April 26-28. Mornings in the 60s and afternoons in the 70s provided the crisp, warmer air of spring for a great three days of rodding and cruising. The event kicked off Friday morning when the OFCC Host Club and Visit Bakersfield hosted a Continental Breakfast before everybody began checking out the show. The men headed toward the Swap Meet coordinated by Ted Wieseman and the women toward Women’s World coordinated by Sandy Phillips. The dynamic team of Toni and Paula around the southwest throughout winter, Bakersfield, California, seemed to be a warm Draeger gathered 41 ladies for the Sanderson Headers-sponsored Ladies Tea. “Orphan John and the Abandon” ripped it up both Friday and Saturday evenings and Nick Donovan’s “Rockin’ Road Show” filled the airways all weekend as the Sloup family again put on some great Games for the kids.
The new “Streets of
Rods” categories for 2024 consisted of “Pros’ Pick” by Alumicraft Street Rod Grilles, “29 Below” sponsored by Vintage Air, “Commercial Court” sponsored by
O’Brien Truckers, “Carburetor Court” sponsored by Harrison’s Rod & Custom, “Lady Rodder Lane” spon- sored by Watson’s StreetWorks and “Mustang Corral” sponsored by FatMan Fabrications. The weekend finished up with a rousing Worship Service by “Just Passing Through” before the awards were handed out.
