APR To Hold Flexo Fundamentals Seminar
All Printing Resources (APR), Glendale Heights, Illi- nois, will hold a one-and-a-half day seminar for peo- ple new to the flexo print process or for candidates looking to deepen their knowledge of flexo’s capabil- ities. The Flexo Fundamentals Seminar will take place at APR’s Glendale Heights, Illinois, Technology Center March 19-20.The event is open to all industry converters and suppliers in addition to personnel working at the brand and packaging-buyer level. Seminar attendees will gain a clear understanding of the flexographic print process in addition to related ter- minology, press components, and prepress/platemak- ing/ink room support functions. Print experts will take participants through the most common print defects and the procedures for defect resolution. Participants will also learn the differences and challenges in running spot colors, screens, and process color printing. Break- out sessions will include making and mounting a flexo plate, a narrow web press run, and demonstrations of ink maintenance and print analysis. Phoenix Challenge Announces Flexo Competition The Phoenix Challenge Foundation, a dedicated sup- porter of flexography education and building the flexo workforce of tomorrow, has announced the 22nd annu- al Phoenix Challenge High School Skills Competition. The event continues to build and breed interest and tal- ent in graphic arts and flexographic printing. This year’s program will be held at Central Piedmont Com- munity College March 20–22 at the Harper Corpora- tion of America campus in Charlotte,North Carolina. The competition brings 30-40 students from vari- ous parts of the United States who show their knowl- edge and compete in teams using their skills and showcasing various disciplines from prepress, platemaking and mounting to mathematics and writ- ten skills to print set-up and press operation. After two and half days of skills challenges and press-room judging, students are awarded and winners receive recognition to continue their pursuit of careers in label and package printing.
