SWACO Seeks To Develop Green Economy Park According to the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO), the Columbus,Ohio, region is home to nearly 400 recycling-reliant businesses.These businesses employ 5,000 people and generate $1 billion in annual revenues.To help attract even more green businesses, jobs and revenue to central Ohio, SWACO has filed a rezoning application with the city of Grove City, Ohio, to develop 350 acres of land into a “green economy business park.” Based upon models around the country and the econom- ic momentum behind utilizing recycled materials, SWACO said the site could create 2,000 to 3,500 manufacturing jobs with good wages and produce between $1.6 million and $4.2 million in local tax revenues and between $350 million and $500 million in capital investment. Additionally, SWACO said the green economy business park will use research, technology and advanced manufac- turing to “bring together the sustainable materials manage- ment supply chain, creating a sustainability destination for businesses and workforce alike.” Sims Launches Leadership Program For Women Sims Ltd., an Australia-based company with global metal and municipal recycling, IT asset disposition (ITAD) and waste conversion technology operations, has launched the Women Leading @ Sims program to support and develop
female leaders within the company. The 10-month development program was created from feedback that women working at the company shared with executive leaders through a series of women-led forums. Women Leading @ Sims provides the internal mentorship and skills needed for career growth that women requested in a virtual, monthly workshop-style course.The company said this program will help it to develop the bench strength of the female leaders and build its internal capability pipeline. Resource Recycling Systems Launches Policy Group Resource Recycling Systems Inc. (RRS),a sustainable materi- als and resource consulting firm headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan,has launched a new group to assist companies with policy development and implementation. Called the Signal- fire Group, the subsidiary will provide research, planning and implementation support to governments and organizations using policy and regulation as a tool to guide sustainable ma- terials management and circular economy strategies. Signalfire Group provides services focused on developing and implementing best-in-class policy and regulatory ap- proaches.
