somebody for six months to a year, they’re going to be with SMC long term. That’s really the key. We all know that this business is one that once you get in and you become part of the industry and make these industry friends, you stay. That’s what we’re trying to en- courage in those new hires. How do we hold on to them? Because there are tons of opportunities out there, and it’s really key for us to to somehow find a way to connect with them on an engagement level and on a cultural level and philosophical level. spend a lot of time interviewing and with employees, and it was eye-opening. I spent six weeks just listening, and most of the chang- es we made were driven by ideas they had. Generally speaking, they’re smart, and if we listen to them, we do some pretty cool things, and they’ll buy into it because a lot of it’s their ideas. So the positive A lot of it is if they’re there, they’re probably pretty talented. The key is to get them and to keep them. Harris : From a machinery manufacturing standpoint, how are you seeing installers and maintenance techs? Is it hard to keep them? Quinn : Machinery today is so different than it was 10 years ago.It is all driven by servos and computers. The people that you have to have taking care of that from from a service point of view is critical. It’s a whole new world today relative to the equipment and those requirements. Pallini : But where there’s a challenge like that, there is an opportunity for machinery and service organizations right now if you offer the ability to go in and fill those voids. Harris: From a consumer standpoint, when the con- sumer gets the box, what are some new things that are being done considering that experience? McNay: It’s always been the boxmaker’s challenge, SCE is billed as the largest, most comprehensive event for the corrugated packaging industry.
