A Message from the Grand Knight
August 17, 2024 On behalf of the officers and members of the Knights of Columbus Santo Niño Council No. 9462, I want to welcome you to our 2024 Installation of Officers Reception. Earlier this morning, we held a ceremony to install the officers for the fraternal year 2024-2025. District Deputy Erwin Lacanienta was assisted by District Warden Renard Gardner, Sr. Fr. Jeff Dauses, our council chaplain, participated in this solemn ceremony. Our council was instituted in 1986 and has held our monthly council meeting every 1st Thursday evening in Cartwright Hall at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Towson, MD. Through the efforts of our Chancellor Joseph Steinbacher and the generous support of High Fleet Corporation, the Santo Niño Council awarded a $5000 grant to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for capital improvements in the parish earlier this morning. For the last 3 years, our council has awarded merit scholarships to two graduating Immaculate Heart of Mary School 8th graders. I commend all of our officers and members who have helped successfully complete the many Faith-in-Action Programs in the last fraternal year. There are several pages in this souvenir booklet which are dedicated to present our Faith, Family, Community, and Life Programs. The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council conferred on our council the Fr. McGivney Award (recognizes excellence in our council’s membership growth), the Founders Award (recognizes excellence in the promotion of Knights of Columbus insurance and fraternal benefits), and the Columbian Award (recognizes excellence in our council’s programming and charitable outreach.) Our council achieved 300 percent of our recruiting goal and has been recognized with the Triple Star Council Award. I want to commend and recognize IPGK Modesto Carbon, Jr. He was a trusted advisor and role model for me as a Grand Knight. He is the “ultimate ambassador” for the Santo Niño Council No. 9462. I congratulate all of our officers and members who have helped to make this past fraternal year a success. I look forward to what we can do in this next fraternal year “to make a difference in someone’s life.” Vivat Jesus!
Jay Penafiel, M.D. Grand Knight
