PRODUCT CATALOGUE

With 22% of crashes being weather-related and 73% occurring on wet roads*, visibility is paramount. That’s why our All-Weather road marking tape contains microcrystalline ceramic beads which reflect significantly more light even when wet. Combine this with the fact that it’s extremely durable and easy to apply, and it becomes the clear winner for your next project. For over 75 years, 3M has been at the forefront of road safety innovation. 3M.com/RoadSafety

The Story of ATS Traffic

As the years went by, Lorne continued to meet the growing needs of the construction industry, leading to the expansion of his company. Thanks to Lorne’s dedication and the unwavering commitment of the exceptional teams at ATS Traffic over the years, we have become the largest 3M™ -certified sign manufacturer and integrated traffic control specialist in Canada. Today, we proudly collaborate with road safety leaders and municipalities to help build safer communities across North America. In 1966, the only hazard marker available was the flare pot, a primitive device filled with kerosene and a burning wick. Seeking a safer and more efficient solution, our late founder, Lorne Hooper, went to his workbench and developed a groundbreaking flashing light attached to a steel barricade. Recognizing its potential, Lorne founded Alberta Traffic Supply Ltd., the first flashing light barricade rental company in western Canada. With just a handful of business cards and a lot of determination, he introduced the product to the Edmonton area — and the rest is history!

Substrates: A substrate in sign manufacturing refers to the physical surface to which ink and/or sheeting is applied. Nearly all materials used in sign making have an inkset or laminate specifically designed for longevity. We always match materials with the proper inkset and/or laminate to ensure optimal quality and durability. Materials are also matched to the substrate, with a range of quality spanning from one to 12 years. Aluminum (Flat Sheet) Flat sheet aluminum is the most common substrate for long-to-permanent use signs and is our #1 substrate. Our aluminum blanks are manufactured at our local production facilities. Our standard blanks feature radius corners, 7/16” holes for mounting, and comply with the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC). Available in various sizes. Our aluminum is 50% thicker than many of our competitors, using a heavy gauge sign-grade aluminum alloy that is long- lasting and rust-free, even in harsh weather conditions, and not easily vandalized or bent. The ASTM 5052-H38 sign-grade aluminum alloy standard is .081 ” (2mm). Our aluminum is cleaned and degreased, with cropped edges to prevent injury. ⋅ Sign sheet aluminum grade 5052-H38 ⋅ .081” (2mm) thickness

and are available in various lengths to accommodate the street name. Decorative street name signs to complement any municipal beautification program are also available. Plywood (HDO/Crezone) HDO (High Density Overlay) panels are made of high-quality, exterior-grade plywood. HDO contains a higher resin content for moisture resistance and provides an excellent base for applying reflective film. It is ideal for construction site signs, project signs, subdivision signs, real estate signs, billboards, double post signs, and more. Available in 1/2” and 3/4” thickness, wood is recommended for sign sizes 120cm x 120cm (4’x4’) and above. If you have questions regarding HDO or Crezone wood substrates, please contact us for additional information. Coroplast Referred to in the industry as “Corex” or “Coro”, coroplast material is predominately used for temporary and promotional signage. It is ideal for lawn signs (election, job site, sales, promotional directional, etc.) and real estate signs, as well as site signs for new building projects. Magnetic Our magnetic material features a strong white vinyl face, perfect for all your magnetic sign needs. It can be screen printed or painted but is not intended for inkjet printing. The standard thickness is 30mm, which is suitable for vehicle magnets and more. The higher the mill, the thicker the magnet and, therefore, the stronger the signage. NOTE: Some sign manufacturers may attempt to supply sub- standard, utility-grade aluminum, passing it off as sign-grade aluminium. The softer properties of utility-grade aluminium make it suitable for ventilation duct manufacturing and the electrical industry (e.g., for tie wires) but inappropriate for signage. These properties are difficult to detect without testing, which can be performed using a Whitney Hand Sheet Metal Punch, or through independent metal testing. Signs manufactured with utility-grade aluminium will begin to bend and deteriorate over time. ⋅ P.S.I. is defined as “ pounds per square inch ” ⋅ Tension leveling is a superior process for leveling sheet material ⋅ The standard for non-tension leveled is 5/16 deviation from flat ⋅ All stated specifications are from “Aluminum Standards & Data” and The Aluminum Association

⋅ Ultimate strength 39,000 PSI (minimum) ⋅ Yield strength 32,000 PSI (minimum) ⋅ Tension Leveled (this leveling technique gives aluminum sheet a superior flatness) ⋅ These specifications are an industry standard and adopted by most government agencies and municipalities

Highway Extruded Aluminum Our highway extruded aluminum sign panels are designed for large ground-mounted and overhead information, destination, and guide signs. The panels are 30cm (12”) wide and 732cm (24’) long (single length), but can be combined for any required length or height. 3M™ reflective sheeting is rolled onto the individual extruded panels, and the lettering and/or symbols are computer cut and applied to the substrate by hand. These panels are then fastened together in the field to form the complete sign. Extruded Aluminum Street Name Blades Extruded aluminum blades are the preferred substrate for municipal street name signs. The “dogbone” extrusion design is durable and works in conjunction with our street name brackets. Our street name signs are double-faced and reflectorized with 3M™ High Intensity Prismatic or Diamond Grade™ sheeting on extruded or flat sheet aluminum blades. Standard colours include white characters on green background, white on blue, or black on white. Standard blade heights are 15cm (6”) or 23cm (9”)

At transfers on complex freeways these signs may be used in the express lanes in advance of a transfer point to indicate the route name and/ or number of the crossing roadways served by the upcoming transfer. The only distance indicated on the sign should be the distance from the sign location to the transfer point (Figure 5.11(b)). Pre-Advance signs may also be used in the collector lanes to identify up to three upcoming interchanges. The distances shown on these signs shall be from the sign location to each crossing roadway (Figure 5.11(c)).

Overhead Turn-Off Signs should be located at the point where the painted gore reaches a width of 1.2 m. Signs should be placed directly above the lanes to which they apply. A yellow down arrow panel is used to indicate all exit lanes departing the freeway mainline (refer to Figure 5.3). Where one freeway terminates at another, a yellow down arrow panel is used to identify all exit options. Generally, one destination for each direction of travel on the crossing roadway should be shown.
