Speaker Biographies

David Huff - Federal Energy Regulatory Commission David (Dave) Huff currently serves as an electrical engineer for the Division of Operations and Planning Standards, in the Office of Electric Reliability at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Dave joined FERC in 2008 and served as group manager for the Office of Electric Reliability’s Division of Reliability Standards, and as deputy director for the Division of Logistics and Security. He began his electric utility industry career in 1986, and held numerous leadership positions over the years in both system operations and transmission planning, with associated responsibility for the NERC-registered functions of balancing authority, transmission operator, transmission planner, and transmission service provider. While working in the industry, Dave also participated on the Interregional Transmission Coordination Forum’s “General Agreement on Parallel Paths” (GAPP) Committee from 1991 to 1997 to develop a method to reliably manage bulk power grid loop flows, prior to the methodology being adapted by NERC for development of the Interchange Distribution Calculator and Transmission Loading Relief procedures. In his current position, Dave co-led FERC-NERC-Regional Entity joint staff inquiries into both the January 2018 and February 2021 cold weather Bulk Electric System events. Dave earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Akron, and is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Senior Member. Jake Courville – Entergy Jake Courville is the Director of Engineering and Technical Support for Entergy’s Power Generation business. He is responsible for supporting Power Generation in pursuit of its key results through fleet-level asset management, major component assessment, and programmatic chemistry and engineering applications. In this role, he is also a member of Entergy’s Incident Response Team for extreme weather. He’s held a variety of roles in his 22-year career at Entergy, most recently serving as General Manager of Nelson Station in Louisiana, a three-unit solid fuel generating station. Jake is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Louisiana, a member of IEEE, and holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration. Jake and his wife are also proud parents of three daughters.
