ITCC Indianapolis Community Partner-Resource & Info Guide

Diversity, Equity & Belonging +Community Engagement

The department of Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Community Engagement at Ivy Tech Indianapolis strives to support the mission of the College through four pillars. These pillars serve as the foundation for all the work coming out of the department and drive partnerships, programs, and initiatives.

1. Build intentional external relationships

Breaking down barriers in the community through building trust and meeting learners wherever they may be; including community, nonprofit and faith-based organizations. This will be achieved by building intentional relationships with organizations within our three-county service area; this includes committee work, intentional sponsorships, and having key staff and faculty present at community events. 2. Eliminate equity barriers for student success The second pillar focuses on eliminating barriers to student success. But to eliminate the barriers, we must identify what those barriers are, both inside and outside the classroom, by evaluating the operating environment. We will facilitate proactive systemic improvements through this pillar by developing training opportunities for faculty knowledge and skill development to create more inclusive classrooms and teaching practices. We will also partner with other members of the cabinet to look at the data and identify areas of opportunity for equity in retention and completion.
