Dual Credit Dual credit courses are Ivy Tech classes taught by credentialed teachers in high schools that count as college credits. Offerings vary by high school, and expectations are higher as they are college-level. Students that take advantage of dual credit opportunities get a head start on their college career and save on tuition. Additionally, this opportunity allows students to meet the Indiana Core 40 diploma requirements with technical or academic honors. Dual Enrollment Dual enrollment allows students to earn college credits while still in high school. Participants benefit from an early college experience, getting the same benefits as Ivy Tech students. Wraparound support is provided with a holistic advising approach, with courses taught by Ivy Tech instructors. Tuition is Ivy Tech’s standard tuition rate, which is the lowest in the state. In addition, students can choose to take courses within the Indiana College Core (30 transferable general education courses) or career and technical education courses (i.e., courses that lead to high-value certificates and high-wage careers). Ivy Tech partners with charter and private schools to provide dual enrollment and dual credit in conjunction with their curriculum to enrich the academic experience for their high school students. What our students are saying “Dual credit courses were an excellent way for me to proactively finish high school while getting a head start on college. The work was a challenge, but it wasn’t too difficult. My experience taught me how to adjust my study habits and organizational skills for the rigor of college. My dual credit college courses brought me closer to my goal of an associate degree in liberal arts.
QY J. FOX Dual credit student
By the time I finished high school, I had earned 18 credit hours. Technically, I’m one-third of the way toward an associate degree. I could earn my degree in about one year. I saved time, and my parents were happy about saving money on tuition. My only regret is being hesitant to begin taking dual credit courses. If I had started sooner, I could have finished my first year of college during high school.”
