This could be sponsoring local sports teams or volunteer groups, lending equipment or expertise, providing space for car parking, anything really. Our involvement can come in a hundred different forms – but we want to be able to help out where we can, because we can, and most importantly, because we genuinely do care. We also have some long-standing relationships with the likes of Cotswold Riding for the Disabled and St James City Farm, but we are always contemplating other areas or ways in which we can make a difference. It is an area of the business that is being taken seriously and evolving every day. It’s exciting, really, to contemplate the positive impact the racecourse can have. When you bundle all that we do together, it is quite incredible – but we know it can still be so much more.”
Barrie Wells Trust and is currently working on plans to deliver a huge event for the Alzheimer’s Society, which is the Group’s countrywide-recognised charity partner. While The Jockey Club has recently announced a partnership with the Rio Ferdinand Foundation, Cheltenham is also embarking on plans locally to put together a programme with the Youth Support Team, the body that holds the youth justice contract in Gloucestershire. The focus of both these relationships will be to provide experiential learning opportunities for teenagers and young adults engaged on their support programmes. “And local is very important,” Andre Klein continues. “We will always single out large charities to work with on events, or over a period of time.
