A Morning to Remember In April this year Cheltenham Racecourse hosted A Morning to Remember ahead of the afternoon’s racing, exclusive to Junior Jumper Members
J unior Jumpers is a free membership available to under 18s for those who have a love for Jump racing. Complete with a swing badge and Membership pack, Junior Jumpers gain exclusive behind-the-scenes events, newsletters and are first to hear exclusive information about our Family Fun Days. From presenting race trophies, to trips to the Weighing Room, our Junior Jumpers have an experience like no other throughout the season. This year, Cheltenham Racecourse hosted A Morning to Remember on Thursday 14 April for Junior Jumper Members to enjoy. With 100 children in attendance, the group were able to visit the last fence on the course and learn all about fence building and how to maintain the track’s condition for racing from the Clerk of the Course, Jon Pullin. Next, they headed over to the Pre-Parade ring for a Veterinary Physiotherapy demonstration by a Vet Physiotherapist, marking up an ex-racehorse in bright colours to show the key areas.
Racing to Schools ambassador Bridget Andrews was joined by racing presenter Martin Kelly in the Parade Ring to talk through a day in the life of a jockey and allow the Junior Jumpers to get a picture in the winner’s enclosure. The morning was finished off with the children getting the chance to put all they’ve learnt to the test by showing off their skills on the equicisors and getting early access into our Family Fun Zone with their Easter egg goodies. “I attended the Junior Jumpers Event at Cheltenham, and it was amazing! I was able to take part in a variety of activities including a course walk taken by the Clerk of the Course (Jon Pullin) and one of my favourite activities was riding an equicisor! I was then lucky enough to be asked to go into the paddock for the ‘Junior Jumpers Membership Fillies’ Juvenile Handicap Hurdle’ race where we got to choose the best turned-out horse and give the winner of the race their trophy! I had a great day.”
