N E W S ENGLISH CATHOLIC DISTRICT UNVEILS BACK-TO-SCHOOL PLAN

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) revealed the proposal for reopening its schools in September. The board’s draft re-entry plan proposes full-time school for elementary students and a new quad-mester model for its high schools. The CDSBEO reviewed the draft plan during a special July 29 in-camera teleconference session for trustees. “We are confident that through this very extensive and well thought out re-entry plan, the board has included consideration for all facets of the return to school in September,” stated CDSBEO Chairman Todd Lalonde. “There has certainly been significant thought put into every aspect of the school day, and

Elementary students will attend school five days a week for a full day each day. A quad-mester system will cover secon- dary school operations. Students will attend school five days a week, taking two courses at a time over a nine-week period or quad- mester. Each quad-mester will cover two different courses. The CDSBEO proposal also includes options for distance learning for students. The draft plan also covers site preparation for all schools before the start of and during the school year, staff preparation, enhanced public health safety protocols, including daily hygiene and sanitization procedures, and enhanced support services for students with special needs and those with mental health needs. The final document, once approved by the education ministry, will be posted on the CDSBEO website at www.cdsbeo.on.ca.

The head of Eastern Ontario English Catholic school district has another job for the next two years. Todd Lalonde, chairman for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO), has been nominated to one of the 38 seats on the Ontario College of Teachers council (OCT). Lalonde will serve a two-year term on the OTF council while continuing as a member of the CDSBEO board.
