The Old Medicine Hospital Started in 1962
In 1973, with a small grant from the Thai government, Ajahn Sintorn acquired a plot of land just outside the center of Chiang Mai, setting the foundation for the present-day facility, Thai Massage School Shivagakomarpaj & The Old Medicine Hospital . At that time, the institution was modest, offering only 10 in-patient beds. However, from these humble beginnings, the traditional medicine hospital experienced remarkable growth and development, expanding to its current size, and attracting learners and seekers from near and far.

By the 1990s, the program saw an impressive number of Thai students graduating each year in traditional medicine, while the popularity of Thai massage among Western students soared, reaching several hundred. As a result of Ajahn Sintorn's relentless efforts, Old Medicine emerged as the quintessential and indispensable source of Northern Style Traditional Thai Massage, celebrated and embraced globally for its authenticity and expertise. Today, the Old Medicine Hospital is part of both national and regional efforts to standardize and regulate the massage industry, to improve safety and authenticity of traditional healthcare in the years to come. Ajahn Sintorn remained the director of the Old Medicine Hospital Facility until his passing away on Oct 18, 2005. Thai Massage School Shivagakomarpaj & Old Medicine Hospital and Bodhi Panya Institute
In 2022, the Thai Massage School Shivagakomarpaj & Old Medicine Hospital joined forces with the Bodhi Panya Institute in San Francisco (the only Thai massage certification school in California).
