TALLOW
Lotion, body butter’s, & balms
Gather your supplies!
Materials needed for lotion, Balms, & body butters 1/4 cup tallow (organic/grass fed/ grass finished is preferred) 2 tablespoons of another carrier oil of choice (almond, grapeseed, avocado, and sunflower seed oil’s will be lighter - great for oil prone skin & jojoba, coconut, castor oil’s will be denser - great for dry skin/ night creams/’slugging’) 10 - 20 drops of essential oil of choice (experiment! Rosemary & Oregano both contain antibacterial properties, citronella can be added in small in small doses, has a wonderful smell & might prevent bugs from getting you! Proceed with precaution when using tea tree & lavender - recent studies show potential endocrine disruption when regularly using these oils. Do your research & a ‘‘patch test” before applying any new skincare product to the face/ body
cornstartch or arrowroot powder can be added to to reduce oiliness & even thicken the lotion’s consistency making it less likely to melt in warmer climates (1/2 teaspoon at a time till it reaches the desired consistency. Test as you add!)
Materials needed in the kitchen:
Double boiler or a pot (a small pot & glass measuring cup or bowl that glass or stainless steel will work as well) kitchen aid or hand mixer containers to put tallow body butter / salve
