Getting Started, Sticking With It Following surgery, you may take brief walks at a slow pace. You will be instructed to increase intensity each week per your doctor’s orders, gradually working up to a minimum of 150 minutes per week (about 30 minutes 5 times a week) of moderate to vigorous physical exercise. Please note: You will need clearance from your surgeon before increasing exercise duration or intensity. Suggested activities include brisk walking, running, water aerobics, dancing, gardening, bike riding, and weight training. To increase your chances of sticking with your program, choose activities you enjoy and can easily do. Tips for Making Exercise a Regular Part Of Your Life: • Write out a detailed plan for yourself and keep track of your activity. Studies show that having a written plan increases your chances of following through by 25 percent. • Download an app to keep track of your progress and increase your motivation. • Make it social! Invite friends and family members to join you when you workout. • Find activities you enjoy and look forward to doing. Try
