A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

This week Year 9 tutor time was focused around Ramadan and looking at the history of this religious celebra- tion. The presentation was created by some lovely Year 10 students and shared with all year groups. Students found it interesting and were engaged with the topic. Our focus this week is International Women’s day. We had an me powering assembly from Mrs Dhir and Mrs Salsbury on Friday and I know that the message was well received by our students. The theme was thought provoking as it was looking at ‘Women in Science’ and I know that many of our students found it especially interesting as they look towards their science GCSE next year. We hope that they continue to discuss the points at home with you and share some of the interesting facts and stories. We want to celebrate the continually achievement of our Eprasie forms. The hard work and continued dedica- tion to school is really shining through in the result league table. As always- here are the top 3 Eprasie forms: Our student leaderboard for Year 9 is as follows: Mia C, Ella R-J, Anastasiia M, Olivia M and Poppy B. Well done all! All of Year 9 have been reminded about the importance of punctuality to school in the mornings. Please can I ask for your support with getting your child/ren to school on time. We expect all students to arrive before 8.35 and be ready to be registered in their form room. Please be aware that unless we have been told in advance about a reason for lateness, students who are late to school will be issued with a same day 20 minute after school late detention. Failure to attend this detention will automatically be escalated to an after school Head of Year detention which is 40 mins. Please remind your child/ren about the importance of punctuality and the sanctions mentioned above if this is not followed. 1. 9EMU 2. 9PWA 3. 9FCO

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘One of Us is Lying’ by Karen M. McManus The book is set in a high school, where five teenagers Addy, Cooper, Nate, Bronwyn and Simon all end up in detention together. A few minutes into the detention a car accident happens right outside, while their teacher hurries out to check what has happened, one of the students, Simon, falls dead. The remaining four students are the main suspects because they were present during his death BUT…. who did it? I really loved reading this book, after the first chapter I was hooked and couldn’t seem to put it down. There are cliffhangers everywhere. New evidence keeps popping up and every time I thought I knew who had killed Simon, more clues came out suggesting another person. Every character has a secret to hide, and an interesting backstory. At the end there was such a plot twist that I was left with my jaw hanging open, I could never have guessed how the murder case unravels. I recommend this to people who love murder mystery!! - Camille P, 8PUN
