A short introduction to EDCEL LA ROSA CABALAN
Mr. Cabalan is a Filipino fine artist who lives in Dubai. A remarkable Architect and a wonderful human being I was lucky to meet him in November 2024 when he was part of the Exhibition of Certified Artists by the Museum of the Americas. He has an extensive artistic biography having shown his artwork for many years at different locations. Among them, here in Houston, Texas, where he received an important award from an Independent Jury. His work is comprised of magnificent works realized with watercolors. He has always been able to project a restless spirit that has never been detained by time or adversity. Mr. Cabalan is a clear example of tireless artistic work. Maybe we may say that each of his paintings can tell a different story. He obtained many prizes – the last one in March 2025 at the “The Nations #3” exhibited in Houston, Texas by the Museum of the Americas where he represented his country of origin, the Philippines. This book pretends to show the world – thanks to digital media – a Series of artworks representing some geographical places. It is the work of an artist whose sincerity and devotion to the arts and culture has no limits.

Edcel Cabalan’s Watercolor Medium: A Masterful Celebration of Urbanscapes and Architectural Marvels
EDCEL LA ROSA CABALAN, a Visual Arts Awardee for Harvest of Honours (Ani ng Dangal 2022) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts under the Office of the Philippine President and recipient of the Outstanding Minglanillahanon 2023 in the field of Arts and Culture and awarded with recognition for his contribution to arts and culture of Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla, Cebu. During the challenging times of the pandemic, Edcel Cabalan found solace and purpose in watercolor painting, despite facing a significant personal obstacle — an impaired right eye that rendered his vision blurry and unreliable. Relying solely on his fully functional left eye, Edcel transformed this adversity into an opportunity to deepen his artistic exploration and refine his craft. Edcel Cabalan has carved a niche for himself in the world of watercolor painting, where his art vividly showcases detailed urbanscapes and architectural subjects. With a keen eye for structure and a deep appreciation for design, he brings to life the character and soul of cities and architectural marvels through his impressionist watercolor works. His paintings reflect a harmonious interplay between light and shadow, with each brushstroke carefully placed to highlight the intricate details of modern skylines, historical landmarks, and Renaissance-inspired structures. Edcel’s choice of a watercolor medium lends a unique softness and fluidity to his works, perfectly complementing the rigid lines and forms of his subjects. Through his art, Edcel captures more than just the physicality of urban and architectural scenes — he infuses them with mood and atmosphere, creating a sense of place and emotion. His ability to interpret the beauty of these spaces, blending precision with artistic expression, sets his work apart. Even with the limitation of one functional eye, Edcel’s artistry has flourished, proving that passion and perseverance can overcome any challenge. His watercolor’s journey is not just a narrative of artistic growth but also an inspiring story of triumph against adversity, where the human spirit shines through every brushstroke. Through his brushstrokes, Edcel manifests his free-flowing expression of artistic imagination and emotion, making each artwork a reflection of his unique creative style. His artwork has been accepted and exhibited in various galleries, both online and physical, both local and international (Georgia, Vietnam, Mauritius, France, Spain, Italy, India, UAE, USA, Philippines) and has gained recognition in the world of art.
