Supporting communities, charitable organizations and residents throughout Saskatchewan SaskEnergy is committed to strengthening the communities we serve and to supporting the people that go above and beyond to better the lives of others or make community events a success. For nearly 25 years, SaskEnergy has prided itself on being the Champion of Volunteers for numerous community-driven events throughout Saskatchewan. In 2023-24, we supported 871 charitable and non-profit programs and events in 360 communities across the province. Focus areas included community engagement, vulnerable peoples, environmental stewardship, natural gas education and safety, and Indigenous engagement initiatives. Share the Warmth grant program SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program provides grants to charitable organizations in Saskatchewan that offer warm clothing, shelter, food, or mental health services to help individuals in need prepare for winter. Through an annual application process, organizations can receive up to $1,000 for their projects and leverage the funding in a way that works for their specific organizational needs. More than 430 grants, worth $430,000, have been provided to charitable organizations since the inception of the Share the Warmth Grant program in 2013. Honouring Indigenous engagement and truth and reconciliation One of SaskEnergy’s focus areas for our community investment program is Indigenous engagement and, specifically, providing support to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. As part of this commitment, we are proud to be the title sponsor of Remai Modern’s Fireside with Lyndon , which honours Indigenous communities and groups with open and transparent discussion. A free event series hosted by traditional knowledge keeper and storyteller Lyndon J. Linklater, Fireside with Lyndon features a variety of guests and provides a warm and welcoming opportunity for social gathering and public conversation about urgent topics that surround us all. Investing in the labour force and in Saskatchewan’s future leaders In 2023-24, SaskEnergy renewed our scholarship commitments with the University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, and the Gabriel Dumont Institute. These agreements, worth $550,000, will provide 68 scholarships per year to students studying an array of disciplines. Through our scholarship program, which has been in place since 1997, we’ve invested more than $3 million to help nearly 1,900 Saskatchewan students complete their post-secondary education at the aforementioned organizations, as well as at the First Nations University of Canada. This investment plays an important role in creating a skilled labour force in our province.
RENEWING OUR COMMITMENT TO THE STARS OF THE SKY Since 2013, SaskEnergy has contributed $400,000 per year to the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) and, in 2023-24, we renewed that annual commitment for an additional five years. By the end of this five-year term, our total contribution will be $6 million. STARS exists because everyone throughout Saskatchewan should have access to timely, critical care if it’s ever needed. Studies show that about 50 per cent of trauma-related deaths could be prevented if patients had received critical care sooner. In addition, more than half the population of Western Canada lives outside major urban centres, where access to critical care is measured in hours rather than minutes. With our employees and customers living and working in rural and remote areas throughout Saskatchewan, and safety at the centre of everything we do, SaskEnergy is proud to support STARS in providing our province’s residents with timely, vital care and the security and safety they deserve.
