THE MINDFUL TRAVELER

As you experience our destination, here are a few ways you can honor our people and places: • When visiting cultural destinations throughout OKC, please be mindful of sacred spaces or traditions that may not be for public access. If you aren’t sure, just ask and our friendly residents are happy to help. • Every destination has a story and OKC’s began with several tribal nations who have always inhabited this special place, long before it was officially a city. Our complex past also includes being the “Unassigned Lands” during the period when

indigenous tribal nations were forcibly moved to the west. A land run in April 1889 created what we now know as Oklahoma City. This layered history can’t be captured in one piece of art or a single exhibit, so we hope you’ll take the time to learn and understand inclusive viewpoints of how our past is woven into the fabric of who we are today.

• OKC’s revitalization has included environmental stewardship that has transformed former EPA

Brownfields sites into vibrant green spaces and attractions. The Bricktown Entertainment District, Skirvin Hotel, Scissortail Park and First Americans
