Solar Energy System .
A. Maximum Size . The zoning lot size for a solar energy system shall not exceed 40 acres for any single site.
B. Fencing . The site shall be protected with a minimum six (6) feet high fence.
C. Minimum Separation . There shall be a minimum setback of 200 feet between the solar energy system and any residential use. The solar energy system shall be designed to not create glare to adjacent properties. D. Access . Access to the property shall not be provided from a residential street. Access shall be restricted to a specific entrance with a gate which shall be locked at all times and, which shall exhibit official notice that only authorized persons are allowed on the property.
E. A Special Use Permit is required for operation in the Residential Agricultural (RA) and Heavy Industrial (HI) Zoning Districts.

Substation, Electrical .
A. Minimum Separation
i. Residential Zoning. There shall be a minimum setback of 150 feet between the footprint of the electrical substation and the property line of adjacent residential zoning districts. ii. Certain Thoroughfares . The footprint of an electrical substation shall be a minimum of 350 feet, measured from the public right-of-way line from a federal highway (US 401), and North Carolina designated highway (NC 55) and (NC 42). The distance shall be measured perpendicular to the property line. B. Access . Access to the property shall be provided from a residential collector street (Type 7) or greater. Access shall be restricted to a specific entrance with a gate which shall be locked at all times, and which shall exhibit official notice that only authorized persons are allowed on the property.
C. A Special Use Permit is required for operation in the Residential Agricultural (RA), Research Light Industrial (RLI), and Heavy Industrial (HI) Zoning Districts.
