Turning from the general to the particular, Dr. Holden proceeded, to unfold something of the unsearchable riches of Christ proclaimed and implied in the fourffold title variously ascribed to Him by the New Testament writers ; I. C h r ist O u r S aviour There is no other name but His whereby men can be saved from the penalty and consequences of their wrong doing and departure from God. He alone bridges the sin- made abyss by taking upon Him the world’s guilt and making full atonement by His death'. And. so doing He declared fully and finally God’s nature of love. “Could we with ink the ocean fill,, Were the whole world of parchment made, And every blade of grass, a quill And every man a scribe by tradéjiif?» Just as by definite acceptance -of God’s free gift .in Christ a man. is saved,'so by equally definite cdfisecration of his redeemed life does the true Christian crown Him as sovereign of his entire being! Dr. Holden illustrated this point by reference to the coronationi'Ôf the kings of Eng land by representatives of the English people. The throne and crown are his by hereditary right, but they are actually bestowed upon him in an impressive ceremony in which -the whole nation representatively joins in making him, whose title it actually the king. Similarly in the life of To tell the love of God to man Would drain that ocean dry, Nor could that .scroll contain the whole Though spread from sky totsky.” ■ II. C h r is t O ur L ord

a Christian,—-Christ, who has purchased us with His own blood, claims as of indisputable right the government and control of us. His will, which may be expressed in the correlative terms, Holiness and Service, becomes life’s ruling consideration. And if is-expressed to us not merely in terms of doctrine and formula, but of life,^-“Follow thou me.” III. C h r is t O ur L if e While we are* inevitably reduced to a sense of impo tence by His example, we are raised to the possibility of conformity by His purposed, indwelling. His ideal has at its heart a dynamic adequate for its own attainment. We who have been “reconciled unto God by the death of His Son”' are “saved by His life.” “In emphasizing this fact of Christ’s indwelling the heart to save His people from their iliri and unto the divine purpose for which they are redeemed, Dr. Holden used an illuminating illustration for which many were grateful. He told of the old fashioned galfanic battery which used to form one of the stock attractions at country fairs, of which quite evidently many present had had personal experience. Taking hold of its handles one received a gentle current of galvanic elec tricity through one’s body, but as the current increased in strength it was“ found impossible to release the hands when one had had enough. Beginning by holding them, one soon learned that they were holding him! So too it is in regard to the Christian holding upon Christ and His Word- Accept Him, crown Him, and begin to obey His s.over|ignCdirection and one finds one’s self held by
