Body
ZestFit: Circuit Training
Why is circuit training beneficial? Among several other benefits, Circuit training can improve muscular strength and endurance. With regular circuit training, you will find that you can walk further, faster and may even improve your balance (even reduce the risk of falling). These fitness programs can also help alleviate bodily pains, muscle aches and joint stiffness by strengthening surrounding muscle tissue. Make your goal to get stronger this month. You will like the benefits.
Soul
Holiday Outing
December is a wonderful time to experience the magic of the opera, theater, symphony, or ballet. Your Zest Director has organized a delightful outing for your community to enjoy this festive season. Attending these performances offers numerous benefits. Not only do they provide a chance to appreciate the arts, but they also foster a sense of community and connection. Engaging in cultural outings can boost your mood, reduce stress, and stimulate creativity. Plus, sharing the experience with others can create lasting memories and strengthen bonds within our community. Let's celebrate the season together through the joy of live performance!
Embracing Calm as the Year Winds Down By Celynn Morin
As we age, our bodies may respond differently to stress. Long-term stress can weigh us down both physically and mentally, affecting everything from our energy to our daily mood. Here are two easy practices you can use to shift from stress to calm and stay grounded in the present: 1. Mindful Minute Breathing: o Set a timer for one minute. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and aim for six to eight slow breaths within that time. This simple breathing focus helps reduce stress and brings an immediate sense of calm. 2. Heart Coherence (A-B-C Technique): o Awareness: Pause to notice your feelings, both physically and mentally. o Breathing: Take deep, full breaths, letting go of tension with each exhale. o Choose Care: Think of something or someone that brings you joy or gratitude. Let that feeling flow from your heart to the rest of your body.
As we approach the end of the year, it’s natural to look back on what’s been and think ahead to what’s to come. For many of us, this reflection brings a mix of joy and stress— balancing activities, navigating changes, and sometimes feeling the weight of what the future may hold. Stress is a part of life, but when we understand how to manage it, we can keep our well-being at the forefront and stay steady through life’s ups and downs. Watch Module 9 on the Wellculator Express Program to explore more on this topic!
These small, easy techniques can make a big difference, helping you approach each day with calm and resilience. For more tools on managing stress, check out the Wellculator Program Module on Stress Awareness & Regulation.

Nourishing Your Genes During the Holiday Season
By: Amanda Archibald
As we approach the festive season, it's worth considering how our holiday choices can affect our health at a deeper level - right down to our genes. While our genetic code remains unchanged, the way our genes function can be influenced by our diet and lifestyle, even during the holidays. Scientists have discovered two fascinating ways our diet interacts with our genes: Epigenetics: It’s like placing sticky notes on our genetic instruction manual, influencing which genes are turned on or off in our body. Nutrigenomics: How specific nutrients can "wake up" underperforming genes.
Ways to enjoy eating during the holidays: Embrace Variety: Many traditional holiday foods are great for genetic health. Turkey, cranberries, and Brussels sprouts contain nutrients that positively influence gene behavior. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how different foods make you feel. Your body's response can offer clues about needed nutrients. Balance Indulgence with Nourishment: Enjoy favorite treats, but include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Simple steps for gene-hugging holidays:
• Stay hydrated
• Keep moving
• Manage stress
Remember, supporting your health is a year-round endeavor. The choices you make during the holidays are part of a bigger picture. By making nourishing choices most of the time, you're giving your genes the support they need to help you stay healthy. This holiday season, celebrate with joy and mindfulness. Every bite is an opportunity to nourish your body at the deepest level. Here's to a festive season that's both delicious and supportive of your long-term health! And just for fun, I created a “Slightly Indulgent Holiday Recipe Collection” for you!

This month, we’re diving into living in motion which all about dynamic movement mastery, where everything you’ve practiced in earlier modules comes together. This is about sequencing movements together that mimic and strengthen our everyday natural life. Why is this important? Because in our daily lives, we don’t move in isolated patterns. Think of the everyday tasks that require these combined movements, like squatting down to reach for a pair of shoes, pulling yourself up from a seated position, or rotating to place something on a shelf. Living in Motion: Integrating Natural Fitness into Your Daily Routine By Amanda Archibald & Celynn Morin
Modules 11 and 12 celebrate how you’ve built strength, stability, and mobility through fundamental movements such as squatting, lunging, reaching, swinging and pulling. Now it’s time to bring these movements together as a foundation for real-life activities.
When you reach up for things or when getting dressed, notice how your shoulders life, your spine twists and your core stabilizes you. When bending down to pick up an item or tie your shoes for instance, notice your legs squat and feel the strength and balance needed to lift yourself back up again. By practicing these movement patterns with more awareness, you’re building the strength and agility to handle daily tasks with confidence and grace. Be sure to watch Modules 11 and 12 on the Fundamental Fitness program to bring it all together and take your dynamic ‘living in motion’ movement to the next level! HERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO USE WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED THROUGH THE LAST FEW WEEKS OF 2024:
