into confident consultants in anesthesiology. Complementing the perioperative curriculum are specialized rotations in non-OR anesthesia (NORA), preoperative evaluation, regional anesthesia, and acute and chronic pain management. Graduates of our Residency Program consistently match for fellowships in all anesthesia subspecialties and excel as attending physicians in academic and private practices nationwide. Our residents thrive in managing clinical crises at Boston’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, treating over 60% of all traumas in the region. They benefit from unparalleled access to our state-of-the-art simulation center, where monthly high-stakes and high-fidelity team training in crisis scenarios reinforces composure and decisiveness. The center also offers realistic difficult airway simulations and hosts weekly “Ultrasound School” sessions, expanding their expertise in point-of-care ultrasound. Anesthesia residents at BMC benefit from daily electronic milestone-based evaluations, accessible online immediately upon completion. Real-time access to performance data enables trainees to enhance their clinical and procedural skills rapidly, with customized learning programs tailored from cumulative performance trends. This structured approach facilitates early identification of areas for improvement, guiding residents to specialized cases and faculty mentors who assist in skill development and proficiency.

Boston Medical Center has a rich history of training excellent physician anesthesiologists since 1937. Our residents receive close mentorship from experienced faculty, preparing them to care for a diverse patient base across all facets of anesthesiology. At Boston Medical Center, anesthesia residents are trained as “physicians first”, emphasizing leadership throughout patient care. They gain extensive experience in Intensive Care Units and receive longitudinal training in critical care, obstetric, and pediatric anesthesia, progressively assuming greater responsibilities as they develop.
