Melissa Nadler, MD has acted as the Director of Anesthesiology Simulation since 2021 and as one of the newly appointed Anesthesiology Residency Assistant Program Directors at Boston Medical Center since 2024.
Dr. Nadler received her MD from New York Medical College in 2015. She completed her Anesthesiology Residency at Boston University Boston Medical Center in 2019, earning the honor of chief resident in her final year of training. She went on to complete her fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in 2020. Dr. Nadler joined the staff of the Boston Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology and was named the Director of Anesthesia Simulation in 2021. Since that time, she has worked to expand upon existing curriculum and create new simulation experiences to further clinical education for the department. Dr. Nadler created intern simulation education and wellness days with the goal of integrating and improving the educational experience of the categorical anesthesiology interns. She also implemented a new advanced vascular access curriculum for the junior residents. In concert with Dr. Karolina Brook, Dr. Nadler has worked to utilize simulation as a means of improving quality and safety within the department, specifically with the creation of the Clinical Skills Grand Rounds educational series that allows learners of all levels to practice clinical skills that are instrumental to the safe practice of anesthesiology. Dr. Nadler was named an Assistant Program Director for the Anesthesiology Residency in 2024. This opportunity has afforded her the chance to integrate her interests in education, mentorship, and residency program leadership. ‘I am dedicated to mentorship and education. In my dual roles, as both director of simulation and assistant residency program director, I am afforded a unique opportunity to teach and guide residents during their education. My mentors are the reason I am the physician I am today, and I hope to provide similar inspiration to future generations of physicians.’
Dr. Kwan graduated magna cum laude from University of California, San Diego and received her MD from St. George University with summa cum laude in 2016. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at New York – Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Dr. Kwan completed residency in Anesthesiology at Boston University Medical Center in 2020, and joined the faculty as an Instructor in Anesthesia at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine immediately after. While serving as a core faculty under the mentorship of several senior faculty members in the Department of Anesthesiology, Dr. Kwan was given the opportunity to engage in various aspects of residency education, training and administration. She gained a clear understanding and strong appreciation of the amount of work entailed to operate a thriving residency program. “I am committed to bring forth my skills, expertise and passion to take on the leadership position, and to contribute to the continued growth and success of our program.” says Kwan. “Being a proud graduate of our own program, I have no doubt I will be a good role model for our residents to demonstrate compassion, exercise integrity and promote clinical excellence to our diverse patient population.”
