CLINICAL AFFAIRS

The IPP, a state-of-the-art facility, houses 23 operating rooms, a hybrid room, procedure rooms, and suites dedicated to interventional radiology, cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and endovascular procedures. This centralized hub enables standardized and optimized perioperative care by bringing together diverse specialties and interventions. The Department of Anesthesiology plays a pivotal role in managing the IPP, ensuring patient safety and operational efficiency through designated site officers and a daily floor leader. The Department of Anesthesiology operates under the Anesthesia Care Team model, with a collaborative approach involving anesthesiologists, residents, and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). Attending anesthesiologists provide direct patient care and supervise residents, while other anesthesiologists may oversee CRNA teams. The distribution of staff is carefully planned each day to match resident training requirements, staff expertise, and the complexity of surgical procedures. Electronic resources facilitate communication and operational management. Leveraging the IPP and a dedicated team, the Department of Anesthesiology is committed to providing exceptional anesthesia care and optimizing patient outcomes throughout Boston Medical Center. Our comprehensive services, coupled with advanced facilities and collaborative teamwork, position us as a leader in the field of anesthesiology. A Message From the Vice Chair of CLINICAL AFFAIRS Mauricio Gonzalez, MD

The Department of Anesthesiology at Boston Medical Center provides comprehensive anesthesia services across a multitude of clinical settings. Our team delivers anesthesia care in over 30 locations daily, encompassing surgical, obstetrical, and interventional procedures. In addition to perioperative care, we offer specialized services in surgical intensive care and acute and chronic pain management. These services are primarily concentrated within the Integrated Procedural Platform (IPP) but also extend throughout the hospital, including labor and delivery, gynecology, radiology, intensive care units, and endoscopy.
