Paper Maps Before there was the Internet, people actually had to use paper maps when they went somewhere new. There was an index in the back with a list of the street and place names. First you had to find the page in the book of maps that showed the area you wanted to see. Then you had to look at the map and think of the best route . Sometimes it was very di cult to know how long it was going to take to get somewhere.
