OUR CHIMES WILL RING

The Beautiful Bells of Biola Expected to be Completed on Independence Day

A c c o m p a n y in g this brief story of the beautiful chimes of the Bible Insti­ tute of Los Angeles, which are being mount­ ed on the roof of the north thirteen-story building as it is being written, is a picture of Supt. Horton standing between the two largest of the eleven bronze bells. The object is to show the relative size of the bells. E. L. Kehn, who has been sent here from

man. The climate of Los Angeles being such as to have no effect whatever on the bells, it is deemed best to eliminate any­ thing that will serve to obstruct the tones. The bells are carefully tuned, in accord­ ance with the well-known Meneely reputa­ tion, the scale on the manual being as fol­ lows : D, E, F-sharp, G, G-sharp, A, B', C, C-sharp, D, E. city, aside from the Eliza A. Otis memorial chimes at the entrance to Hollywood Ceme­ tery. The bfells have been installed at a cost of $12,000, and in view of the fact that the feature will be unique in a city of more than 200 churches, it will become one of great interest to visitors, and as an attrac­ tion, of much value to this institution.
