THE KING’S BUSINESS

of everyone of His servants (John 12:26). v. 9. "Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel; because the LORD loveth Israel forever, therefore made H e thee king, to do judgment and justice.” The Queen not only burst forth into congratulations of Solomon’s servants, but in ascriptions of praise to God. It was all of Jehovah’s grace that Israel had so wise a king, and the Queen ascribed all the praise to Him (cf. ch. 5:7). She was wise *n saying “Jehovah delighted in thee.’” He Himself had said so (cf. 2 Sam, 24:25, R. V. margin). In that Jehovah delighted in him, Solomon again was a.type of Christ (Matt. 3:17; Is. 42:1), It was because of Jehovah’s love for Israel (Deut. 7:8; 1 Chron. 17:22; 2 Chron. 2:11), that He made Solomon their king, and it is because of His Ipve for them still, despite all their wanderings and sins and backslidings, that. He will some day make the returning Christ their king (Rom. 11:26). It was" “to dp judgment and jus tice” that Jehovah-made Solomon king: here again Solomon is a type of Christ (Ps. 72 :2; Is,' 9:6, 7; .11:4, 5; 32:1, 2 ;'Jer."23:5, 6 ). v.\10. "And she gave the king a hundred and twenty*talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious'stones: there came no more such abundance, of spices as these which the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.” Out of her abundant joy the queen gave with great abundance to the king, and, everyone who comes to ’really know Jesus out ot the fullness of his joy will lay. all of his treasures at Jesus’ feet (cf. 2 Cor. 8:2). This abundant giving of the Queen of Sheba was a!foreshadowing of the coming day when all nations and kings shall bring their treasures and lay them at Jesus’ feet (Ps. 72:10, 15). y. 13. "And King Solomon gave unto the Queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, besides that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty." What the queen gave ,to Solomon was nothing to what she received from Solomon (Prov. 3 :13-15)y and nothing that we can possibly bring to

a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts, and^of thy wisdom.’’ The re port that she- had heard had seemed too wonderful to be true,, but when she came to examine for herself, she found that the re port wonderful as it was, was not in the least exaggerated, either regarding the acts or the wisdom of Solomon. The things that men tell us of what Christ has -done for them, and that the Bible tells us of what Christ can do, appear too wonderful to be lieve, but .if we come, right to Him ancj put Him to the test, we will find in their state ment not a word of exaggeration in all that we read of His acts and of His wisdom. v, 7. "Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine• eyes had seen , it.” This Queen was very like us: she could not believe the wonderful story that she had heard about the king (cf. Mark 16:11X until she had come and seen with her own eyes. How many there are today that believe not the words that the Bible contains about our Lord Jesus: just let them come to Him, and their own eyes shall see it. “And behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.” Everyone that comes to Jesus finds that all he heard about His glory, as incredible as it seems, is true, but he finds "still more, just as the Queen found that the “half was not told.” Everyone, who really comes to Christ and Sees with his own eyes, is forced to exclaim, “the half was not told me.” How tame the most glowing testimony. we ever heard about Christ seems when we really come to Him and see for ourselves. v. 8. "Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.” In her joy in him whose wisdom and glory she had witnessed, the Queen burst forth into congratulations of Solomon’s servants, and what she says about them and their blessedness is even truer of those whpse, privilege it is to “stand continually before” Christ and to hear His wisdom (cf. Luke 10:39-42; Prov. i3:20; 3:13, 14). To “stand continually before” Christ is the privilege
