Old Testament? Matt.' 3 :1-21. Was he a- man of like passions? 2 Cor. 4:7. Was he a child of the desert, and God taught? Gal. 1:12-17. Did he take his life in his hands? ch. 17:1; 18:2; 21:19. When a man stands before the Lord, need he fear man? Isa. 51:12, 13. Was Elijah’s message of a national judg­ ment in accordance with God’s Word? Lev. 26:18-20; 11:16, 17; (2) God’s Provision for His Messenger, vs. 2-7. , Elijah is commanded to hide himself, v. 3. He was to be supplied with water from the brook and food from the ravens, v, 4. Elijah obeyed the command, v. 5. He was fed morning and night, vs. 6, 7. Questions: Did Jesus hide to protect Himself? John 9:59. Was solitude necessary to Elijah’s safety? Have some of .the worthies needed the desert? Heb. 11:38. Is the wilderness a place of communion? Mark 16:31. If “Cherith” means “separation,” is that a suggestion of the value of our separation ? 2 Cor. 6 :17. If God feeds the ravens, can He com­ mand them? Ps. 33:8, 9; Job 38:41. Do the beasts of the field honor God? Isa. 43:20. When God speaks, is it done ? Ps 33 • 8, 9. Did Elijah prove his faith by obeying? John 15:14. Does God supply all the need of His creatures? Ps. 34:9, 10; Luke 22:35.

(3) The Preservation of Elijah, vs. 8-16. Elijah is moved to Zarephath, v. 9. He is housed with a poor widow, v. 9. He. orders bread and water, vs. 10, 11. The widow confesses to her poverty, v. 12 . Elijah encourages her to have faith in God, vs. 13,; 14. God worked a miracle and preserved them, vs, 15, 16. How could Elijah go to a place of great danger? Rom. 4:20. Can the Word/ of God fail? Ps. 89:34. Was he selfish in asking food for himself first? Num. .15:21. Can a little meal be made to go a long ways ? Matt. 15 :33, 34. What other poor widow had a like ex­ perience? 2 Kings 4:2-7. Is there cause for fear when God com­ mands? 2 Chron. 20:17. Is it enough to have the “thus saith the Lord” ? 2 Kings 7:1; 9:6. Are all things possible with God? Matt. 19:26. PRACTICAL POINTS (1) Elijah’s weapon was the Word of God. (2) The servant of God is a master of men. (3) A raven has more sense than a ra­ tionalist. (4) Elijah lived from hand to mouth, but it was God’s hand. (5) If you stand before God, you will not fear to stand before men. (6) When 'the brook dries up, water can be brought out of the rock. (7) The meal in the barrel was worth more than a barley loaf in the hand, (8) “Trust and obey, for there's no other way.”
