Object Lessons continued blue border, the same color as the sky, would remind them to look up, and remembering the Lord and His commandments, they would be better able to resist the temptation (Num. 15:38, 39). One commandment which the Lord gave them is found in Numbers 33:52. They were told, “Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places.” Again, in Numbers 33:55, we read, “But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.” It has always been God’s will that His people live different lives from the unsaved people of the world. In 2 Corinthians 6:17 we are told, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the L o rd , and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” Sept. 16, 1956 W a t e r fo r t h e W e a r y OBJECTS: A large rock, a conductor’s baton and a pitcher of clear water. LESSON: When one is thirsty, a pitch­ er of clear cold water such as this looks very attractive. Were you ever thirsty when there was no water to satisfy your thirst? That is a very unpleasant circumstance in which to be. This was the condition in which the children of Israel found them­ selves in the wilderness. In Numbers 20:2, we read, “And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.” The peo­ ple were angry with Moses and Aaron and said, “. . . why have ye brought up the congregation of the L o rd into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?” (v. 4). A like circumstance had happened to the children of Israel about 20 years before. That time the Lord told Moses to strike the rock with his rod, and when he obeyed, water came out of the rock to satisfy the people’s thirst (Ex. 17:6). This time the Lord wanted Moses to speak to the rock and not strike it. The Lord promised that the rock would give forth water. Moses was
