DR TALBOT Christ's Bride Q. What is the difference between the bride of Christ and the bride of God? A. The Scriptures refer to the bride of Christ but not to the bride of God. Hosea, however, calls Israel the divorced wife of Jehovah. The bride of Christ is the Church and Israel will be the wife of Jehovah again when she is reconciled to Him at the return of Christ, the true Messiah. When Can You Be Forgiven? Q. Explain Matthew 12:32. Why is it forgivable to speak against the Son of man? A. Our Lord does not mean, of course, that it is allowable to speak against the Son of man but that He will forgive those who repent no matter what evil things people may have said about Him in their un repentant, unsaved state. His mercy in this regard was expressed as He hung on the cross and prayed, “Fa ther, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” If men speak against the Holy Spirit, that is, in the sense of utterly rejecting His testimony concerning Christ, there cannot be forgiveness for there is no other Saviour than the Lord Je sus Christ. If they repudiate Him finally, they are without hope. Present-Day Israel and Prophecy Q. What in your opinion is the sig nificance of the present state of Is rael as a nation? A. The Scriptures are very clear that, following Israel’s official and national rejection of its Messiah, God gave the declaration of divine truth to a nation which would bring forth the fruits thereof, and Peter

describes that nation in his epistle. That nation is identified as the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is true that for 2,000 years this company of Jewish and Gentile be lievers in Christ has given the good news of redeeming grace to the nations of the world. But God has indicated in His Word that the times of the Gentiles will terminate someday and that after the Church has been completed, He will take up His dealings with the nation of Israel again. In order that these national dealings with Israel can become an established fact, it is necessary that they be restored to their own land. This has now been done, although the nation is still in unbelief. This event is of ex treme prophetic importance. Israel took its place among the nations of the world May 14, 1948. The na tion was scattered among all na tions according to the prophecies of Deuteronomy 28 and elsewhere and is now regathered. The personal, bodily, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to this earth to catch away the Church is the next event in God’s calendar, after which all the events described in Daniel and in the Book of Revelation and Mat thew 24, 25 will take place with Dr. Louis T. great rapidity, including the great tribulation, the establishment of Christ’s kingdom upon earth, the thousand years’ reign, Armageddon and the eternal ages. Individual Judgment Q. Will the joys of heaven, as well as the punishment of the lost, be alike for all? A. No, there are degrees, both in punishment of the lost and in the rewards of the saved. See 1 Corin thians 3:13-15; Luke 19; Revelation 22:12 and many other passages. Card Playing Q. Will you please tell me what should be a Christian’s attitude toward playing cards? Some pro fessing Christians seem to think there is no harm in them if you do not gamble. A. Here are two verses which will answer this question: 1 Corinthians 10:31: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God” ; and Colos- sians 3:17: “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Cards have been connected with crime, from time immemorial. My own personal conviction is that they do not belong in a Christian’s life. A. There can be no permanent world peace until the Prince of Peace is enthroned in the hearts of the people of the world. That has not yet been done. When Christ rules for 1,000' years as the King over the universe, there will be peace. World Peace Q. Is world peace imminent?
