Evaluation Tool The Descriptive Value Scale that you photocopied at the beginning of the unit is an extremely useful tool for evaluating each student individually. The value scale can be used in Lessons 3 to 4 to assess how well students are achieving the outcomes of this unit. You can carry out an initial assessment in Lesson 3 and simply adjust it as necessary by the end of Lesson 4. This will also give you a sense of how learners have progressed. Always keep in mind that this tool will help you identify both struggling and advanced students (who may already be able to successfully complete the outcomes before they have worked on the related activities), which will give you the opportunity to use more open tasks to allow for different learning outcomes.

Review The aim of these activities is to first have students work individually so they can practice the skills they learned during the unit. It is a great opportunity to give individualized support to struggling students. They then have an opportunity for further practice in pairs or in groups. Another useful strategy is to promote tutoring between pairs, so advanced students may help their classmates. In any case, monitor them closely while they work on these activities so they feel confident enough to attain the achievements by themselves.
