NEW SHIRT. OLD SOUL. As we look forward to a new year, we’re reminded that it’s possible to be a leader for change and innovation while also remaining true to the past. There’s an art to making a brand-new shirt feel familiar. And for over 45 years, Comfort Colors ® has been perfecting it. Our apparel is the result of decades of dedication. Every thread is thought through, from selecting quality U.S. cotton to perfecting the timeless process of garment-dyeing with our innovation and technology. This passionate pursuit has led us to develop an entirely unique way to garment dye. Our proprietary Clean Pigment Dyeing (CPD) process radically improves our efficiency and sustainability by eliminating waste and lessening the impact we have on the environment. CPD uses 3x less water and 4x less energy, and at the same time improves the shading, color and consistency of each garment. Drawing from the past to create something completely original also led us to develop Color Blast, a technique where garments are sprayed rather than immersed in dye bath. The result is that no two garments are exactly alike (with a wide variety of color concentration and texture), meaning each is as unique as the person who wears it.

There’s a perfect process for every project, but knowing the difference is key. And whichever dyeing technique you choose, each item undergoes our signature 50-wash process, ensuring soft comfort and almost no shrinkage.

Known for their vivid colors, vibrant hues and long-lasting color-fastness, direct/reactive garments react to the dye which absorbs into the yarn, allowing them to maintain their traditional dyed appearance for the life of the style. PIGMENT SPRAY

A fresh take on the classic pigment dyeing process, Color Blast dyed garments are sprayed with dye rather than immersed in a dye bath. The result is a wide variety of color concentration and texture. No two Color Blast garments are exactly the same, meaning each one is as unique as the person who wears it.

SCREEN PRINTING (SILK SCREENING)

DISCHARGE PRINTING

GLITTER INK

A technique that uses stencils and ink to create designs on garments. It is the most economical method for producing large quantities that involve cotton or cotton-blend garments.

This form of screen printing uses a water-based catalyzed (activator) ink. The discharge agent neutralizes the color in the garment while also adding the new color. Discharge base (without colorant) will discharge many garments to a soft natural color.

Special clear or metallic shiny glitter can add shine or impact to a design. The glitter may be added into inks, printed as a top layer, or shaken on top of the ink. This technique works best on larger print areas with simple designs.

REFLECTIVE PRINTING

FOIL

DIRECT TO GARMENT

Reflective inks consist of small glass beads in a carrier base. They cause any bright light to reflect off the print directly back at the viewer. This technique works best on larger print areas with simple designs.

A premium method that combines heat and pressure to transfer foil to a garment. Foil is available in a variety of colors and patterns and can be used to create dramatic accents or overall designs on all colors and weights of fabrics.

This form of printing utilizes specialized ink jet technologies to print in full color directly on garments using a water-based CMYK system for white shirts and an added white-ink for colored garments. Ideal for full color prints and for reproducing fine detail.

MIXED TECHNIQUES

PUFF INK PRINTING

LASER CUT APPLIQUÉ

A method for creating a raised rounded effect by screen printing with an ink containing a unique foaming agent or puff additive that expands when heated. Ideal for simple designs.

Depending on the look to be achieved, it may be necessary to employ more than one technique to achieve the desired result. Screen printing and embroidery can be combined along with a shiny appliqué to produce a garment with a higher perceived value.

Combines heat and pressure to transfer images to garments. The transfer paper is peeled away while still hot resulting in the majority of the ink melting into the fabric for a softer, lighter feeling print. This is a great option for detailed prints, customization, shorter runs and quick turnaround times.

NEON COLORS

DISTRESSED PRINTING

A screen printing process using neon or fluorescent inks. On colored garments they are printed on top of a white opaque base to achieve the brightest possible ink color. Print colors range from bright orange to lime and hot pink.

Distressed printing gives screen prints an intentionally weathered look right from the start.

What is Clean Pigment Dye (CPD)?

Over the years Comfort Colors® has mastered the art of making garments feel and look the way you love. Through this, we have developed our Clean Pigment Dyeing (CPD) process, which is a unique, more sustainable dyeing method compared to the conventional reactive dyeing process. When compared to the traditional pigment dyed method, CPD uses:
