OCTOBER

CEO's Message October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states Breast Cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States, and 42,000 women and 500 men in the U.S. die each year from this critical disease. I am proud to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink Campaign. Throughout the month, NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx raised funds for the American Cancer Society and provided education and resources to raise awareness to mitigate this dreadful disease. Thank you to each of you who participated in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Your dedication to healthcare is recognized and valued. Join me in congratulating the Women's Health team for Upholding the Highest Standards of Infant Feeding Care and receiving the prestigious Baby-Friendly® re-designation. Also, I am proud to announce that NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx facility has been awarded over $254,888.00 for 2023 to expand access to abortion services. The monies were included in New York Governor Kathy Hochul's second round of awardees from the Abortion Provider Support Fund, building on the commitment to ensure safe abortion access and family planning services for all New Yorkers. Lastly, I want to acknowledge the great work of our Nursing team at NCB as they navigate their journey on ANCC Pathway to Excellence® Program. This is a fantastic endeavor. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence Program recognizes a healthcare organization's commitment to creating a positive practice environment that empowers and engages staff. Stay tuned for nursing events and updates on Pathway to Excellence®. It's unbelievable how quickly October flew by. Congratulations to all the departments who coordinated activities to celebrate the various healthcare and department observances highlighting the great work you all do at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx to enhance patient-centered care. Thank you for all that you do!

Reminder to get your flu shot if you haven't done so already. Stay safe and healthy.
