Reimagined Jewels By Terry Lynn Windquist

Jewelry Artist

I was introduced to the world of jewelry at an early age. My mother and grandmother opened their jewelry boxes and dressed me up with necklaces, bracelets, and rings. This continued for years as I played dress up with Mom’s jewelry, clothes, hats, purses, and high heels. My mom was the image of June Cleaver as in the 50’s television sitcom, Leave it to Beaver. Every morning Mom dressed in the current fashion with her hair styled in the latest cut. She always wore a piece of jewelry. Her favorite necklace was the pearls Dad gave her as a wedding present. My collection of jewelry began with inheriting my mothers’ jewelry and a few pieces of my grandmother’s jewelry. I often wear Mom’s pearl necklace, and a few of her earrings, pins, and rings. I really like all her jewelry but some of it is just outdated. This is how I came up with the idea of Reimagined Jewels. My jewelry workplace overflows with well-worn vintage necklaces, bracelets, beads, pearls, rhinestones, turquoise, earrings, old watches, and pendants just waiting for a new beginning. I keep my jewelry in glass jars which makes it easier for me to see all my items. Just looking at the colorful beads motivates me into making something. I often string a necklace or bracelet to match an outfit. It’s really satisfying when it turns out to be what I wanted. Looking through my jewelry brings back many memories. I can remember when I purchased it or who gave it to me. I remember mom wearing her favorite pins or necklaces. I also remember the boyfriends and girlfriends who gave me jewelry for gifts.

This year, I decided to make a Jewelry Christmas Tree using all my favorite pieces.
