I found a pewter frame in an 8x20 size for making a Jeweled Christmas Tree. I looked online and came up with a few ideas for a sketch of a tree. I liked this simple design and stretched it in photoshop so it would be tall to fit the frame and I printed it out in black and white. I searched for fabric, unsure of what I wanted. I found a sheer shimmering piece of fabric in shades of a rainbow and decided upon it. The sketch is visible under the fabric and it gave an overall finished appearance. The supplies I used were a spray adhesive (Krylon Easy-Tack) and a glue that would work on fabric (Aleene’s Multi-Surface Adhesive) but is strong enough to hold the beads in place. The steps are as follows: 1. Use the cardboard backing from the back of the frame for support for the sketch. Spray the cardboard lightly and position the sketch in place, if it is not exactly in the right place you can move it. Let it dry. 2. Lay the fabric on top positioning it correctly. Cut the fabric 2 inches larger to overlap on the back of the cardboard. Lay the frame over the top of it to make sure it is in the proper position and is visually correct. 3. Spray the sketch and position the fabric on the top of it in place. Do not put it in the frame until you are finished. I did many different layouts with beads, pins, charms, photos, watches so I could see how it looked and what I liked. I just laid them in place. 4. I started with the base of the tree first and used black beads. It was too harsh for the idea I had in mind. I tried painting gold leaf over the beads but didn’t like that either. A few days later… I pulled off a few of the gold leaf black beads and to my surprise they came off without doing any damage to the fabric, so I pulled them all off and ended up using flower silver beads. I still had beads and pearls left over from some previous projects, so I used them.
