Old Eastbournian
Reunion Weekend The Eastbournian Society annual dinner
Chris Saunders with College prefects
Emma Garrett, Jess Lawson, Tom Lawson, Chris Saunders and Cynnie Saunders
R eunion weekend 2024 kicked off with a formal dinner at Eastbourne’s Grand Hotel on the evening of Friday 6 September. Over 110 people gathered for an evening of celebration, starting with a drinks reception and a rousing performance by the College’s Jazz Band. College prefects were also on hand to welcome the guests. Development Director Emma Garrett (Nugent 1984–86) set the scene for the evening with a few words, before all were
treated to a superb three-course meal in the Grand’s majestic Compton Room. Recently appointed chair of the Eastbour- nian Society Ian Henley (Gonville 1970–75) then spoke, introducing the guest speakers for the evening. This was the much-anticipated ‘Head- to-Head’ when the current College headmaster Tom Lawson along with Chris Saunders, College headmaster from 1981 to 1993, captivated their audience with
anecdotes, rich in humour and nostalgia, resulting in much laughter. The evening ended with a raffle featur - ing an array of prizes which added nearly £3,000 to the Blue Sky Bursaries Appeal. Our grateful thanks go to the gener- ous prize donors: Grand Flowers, Nigel Strofton, Wingrove House, and Worples- don Golf Course. And a big thank you to Alex Vanotti (Watt 1994–96) who was chief photographer.
