Old Eastbournian Magazine 2024-25

Oxford drinks gathering Andy Gillett (Wargrave 1970–73) helped organise a drinks evening at the King’s Arms in Oxford on Thursday 11 April, with attendees from Oxford and the surrounding area.

The Windsor Ten A gathering of senior Old Eastbournians took place on Tuesday 28 May in Guildford, when the remaining members of the ‘Windsor 10’ met for lunch and reminiscences. Named after the study room in School House which they had shared as pupils, the group had met regularly over the years since they left the College in the late 1950s. However, since Covid and, following the death in 2020 of one of their members David Winn (School 1954–59), they had not got together for a number of years. The Windsor 10 members pictured here are, standing, Mike Mulvany (School 1954–59) and Alastair Graham (School 1954–59); and seated, left to right, Pat Colbourne (School 1955–59), John Hendley (School 1954–58), and Tim Riordan (School 1954–58).

Soirée in Geneva On Saturday 8 June, Eastbournian Society members gathered at La Potinière bar in Geneva, Switzerland. Hosted by College Second Master Cris Symes and Vicky Burford, the College’s international co-ordinator, the evening brought together parents of past and current pupils, Old Androvians and Old Eastbournians. Cris welcomed the group, presented the objectives and values of sponsorships and bursaries, and this first opportunity to create a community of Eastbournians in Switzerland.

London drinks Our latest outing to a London hostelry was held at the Fire Station pub near Waterloo on Thursday 10 October, where a cross-section of OEs and others enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours.

Trip to Kenya In September Emma Garrett visited Kenya with Vicky Burford, the College’s international co-ordinator. Together they visited five Kenyan prep schools and Vicky represented the College at the Academic Families Expo, giving her the opportunity to talk about all we can offer Kenyan families, and discover how much we share in terms of values and ambitions for our children. We were extremely grateful to Eric Koops (Gonville and Nugent 1959–63) who sponsored a reception at the Muthaiga Club in Nairobi on Friday 13 September. We were delighted to catch up with other Eastbournians along the way including Adrian Hughes (Gonville 1981–86), Shela Davis née Nightingale (Nugent 1987–89) and James Down (Wargrave 2005–10).
