WHAT IS YOUR HUB’S MOTIVATION? We want to be an innovation-led organisation working with young people. We want to work with those who have ideas but do not know how to develop them and we want to bring our creativity in training them in some of the skills that they do not possess. For example, we focus on entrepreneurial and digital skills. For university students, we have coding classes. We also have incubation and acceleration programmes. HOW IS YOUR HUB ACHIEVING ITS GOAL? We have workshops that focus on different areas. For entrepreneurship, we have the acceleration programme. We have an innovation team focusing on bringing in new things. Also, we have been hosting events in relation to what we are doing. For example, during cyber security week, we organise events that are tailored to create awareness in the community, and these are targeted at people that we want to involve in such events. WHAT ROLE HAS AFRILABS PLAYED IN YOUR HUB’S JOURNEY? When I joined AfriLabs, I started attending some of the workshops online. I also attended the physical meeting in Cairo where I met with other hub managers and leaders. My intention was to learn. These were the things I was very keen about.
Most of the sessions were very relevant to what we wanted to do. And so, when we came back, I had the confidence to move on. I was excited in terms of the capacity and the leadership scales. Furthermore, knowing that we belong to a network gave us a very good image within the East African community and there are live platforms where I am able to connect with my team.
