APPENDIX University of Cincinnati – College of Medicine Department of Family & Community Medicine Faculty Guidelines: Criteria for Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure (Approved April 2012) This document does NOT replace the criteria for Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion and tenure as noted in the College of Medicine’s Faculty Guidelines: Criteria for Appointment-Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure document recently approved December 2, 2011. The faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine reserves the right to apply specific criteria outlined in the College of Medicine’s Faculty Guidelines in a manner that is practical for the specialty of Family Medicine. *Please note that the College of Medicine now has three Non-tenure Tracks: Clinical, Research and Educator. The Educator track is primarily designed for strict Educator/Teachers and is not intended for clinician and research faculty (See COM Criteria for details).

Important Timeline dates are as listed below:

For Faculty planning to apply for promotion:

 September/October – Faculty wishing to apply for promotion in November must meet with Division Director/Unit Head to review their preparation and standing for potential promotion, and to confirm the appropriate faculty track for promotion. Promotion dossier should be submitted to the Director’s Office by November 1 st .  Faculty may apply for promotion in November of any year. If Faculty member’s reappointment cycle is also in the upcoming March reappointment cycle, a reappointment dossier must still be submitted. It should be noted that less paperwork is required if faculty member applies for both reappointment and promotion during his/her regularly scheduled reappointment cycle.

For Faculty applying for reappointment:

 December – Faculty member will be notified by the Department of impending reappointment cycle with a Notification Packet. The notification packet will include a cover letter, a Faculty Dossier Requirement List explaining the required materials, a Record of Action Form (or Title Approval Request Form for Adjunct, Secondary and Volunteer Tracks) that must be signed by the faculty member, and a copy of the new CV format guidelines.  February – Faculty member must submit all reappointment dossier materials to the Director’s Office.  March – Department ARPT Committee reviews faculty dossiers and submits dossier to The Office of Faculty Affairs.
