THE COMMUNICATOR

FALL 2023

Welcome

Kelly Zenzen has joined the Centreville office as their new Administrator/Project Coordinator. Kelly came to us from another local company as their Office assistant and before that, she was the Director of Operations for 20 years where she oversaw several tenant improvements. Kelly is excited about joining the McCrone family. She is looking forward to working as a team and growing in the position. When Kelly is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Kelly likes to keep a low profile, but we are going to see what we can do about that!

Jared McKeown has joined the Elkton team as a Design Engineer. Before joining McCrone, Jared was studying Civil Engineering at York College of Pennsylvania, he also did two internships at McCrone during his time in school. Jared is looking forward to continuing working on some of the projects he worked on as an intern and working with and learning from the great engineers at the Elkton office. When Jared is not working, he enjoys spending time on the water fishing, crabbing, and kayaking as well as watching his favorite team, the Orioles!

We have a new Engineer-In-Training in the Annapolis office! Katie Easter recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and is on her way to earning her PE license. Katie plans to take the PE exam in about 4 years to become a licensed PE. Congratulations, Katie!!

Congratulations

Ryan Conway has had an exciting couple of months! First, he passed is Professional Engineer exam and there is a special delivery arriving March 2024 for Ryan, Kiersten, and Grayson Conway! Even though his late-night exam studies are over, he won’t have early nights for much longer when Conway #4 arrives! Enjoy the 2 am feedings and diaper changes, Ryan!!

Congratulations

On June 10 th our very own Dan Speakman asked Trisha to marry him. He proposed at the building lot they purchased this spring where they hope to build their new house. Trisha must not have had any idea that Dan was about to pop the question, she didn’t even want to get out of the truck, He practically had to drag her. Hopefully the wedding day will go much smoother!! Congratulations, Dan and Trisha!!

Congratulations

Kim Connolly’s daughter, Mikki, has been keeping Kim and Sean busy this summer traveling to her horse shows! Looks like she has been doing fabulously with the display of ribbons!!

Congratulations

Natalia’s son, 8-year-old Brandt Dunlap participated in his first triathlon - Columbia Association Kids Triathlon on July 16th. He placed very well despite the rain and competing in a swim meet the day before. Brandt encouraged (shamed) his dad to participate in a real triathlon in September which was cancelled. That will give Byron more time to train!! Congratulations, Brandt!!

Vacations

During the first week of September, Annaliese and her boyfriend, Connor, travelled to Jackson, Wyoming for vacation! The days were filled with lots of hiking, wildlife spotting, eating, and other outdoor activities in and around Grand Teton National Park. Some of the highlights from the trip include hiking up to Delta Lake, an alpine lake (and taking a dip!), coming face to face with a bull moose inside Cascade Canyon, enjoying pizza & beer at Dornan's Pizza with views of the mountains close by, fly fishing with friends on the Snake River, and spotting lots of wildlife (moose, elk, mule deer, pronghorn sheep, bald eagles, osprey, black bears, grouse, bison, etc.)! The trip finished up with an almost 11-mile hike up to Jackson Peak summit which overlooks the entire Teton Range and Jackson Hole valley! It was a beautiful and unforgettable trip!

Vacations

Jair went to Miami for a week this summer with several of his friends! They all rented sports cars and used them to go sightseeing around the Miami area. They had a chance to visit some awesome areas including South Beach, West Palm Beach, & the Key Islands. Here is a photo of Jair and his friends in South Beach in front of some of the sports cars they rented for their trip!

Vacations

During the second week of September, Joey, and his girlfriend Kaitlynn, took a road trip to Maine to stay at The Loons Nest Air BNB! The days were filled with lots of outdoor activities like walking the trails at Acadia National Park, kayaking on the Green lake, and eating lots of lobster and seafood. They also were able to visit Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain (which was not made of Cadillacs), Bass Harbor Light Station and Bar Harbor for some antique shopping. They have decided to make this a yearly vacation unless McCrone opens an office there!

New Additions

Fletcher is a grandfather!! His family welcomed sweet little Elsie Lynn on October 15 th

Congratulations to Fletcher and his family for their beautiful addition to their family!!

New Additions

Michele’s daughter Rachel gave birth to her second child, Adelina Noel David, born on September 28 th . Mama and baby are doing well.

Extracurricular Activities

Natalia’s son, Braden's No Funny Bees-ness" company extracted 84 lbs of honey and saved several frames of comb honey this year. Braden Dunlap entered his honey for the upcoming honey competition at 2023 AA Co fair.

Extracurricular Activities

Rob has been making cayenne pepper hot sauce for a couple years now and this year he harvested nearly 10 pounds of peppers, which isn't a lot if you are growing watermelons, but it's really a lot of peppers. He will be making the sauce in the next couple weeks so if anyone would like to try a bottle, let him know and he will bring it to the Christmas Party. Rob said his hot sauce has a good lime flavor and turned out really good last year, hopefully this year also.

Extracurricular Activities

Donny, Greg, Max, and Saylor were able to have a day at the golf course for the 28th annual golf tournament hosted by the Susquehanna Chapter of the Maryland Society of Surveyors. The tournament benefits the Society's Education Fund to sponsor students taking Stem courses and took place at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club – Rising Sun, Maryland on Friday, September 22, 2023.

Hearts of Gold

The team in Annapolis are not only superb at what they do but also life savers! It was a team effort to rescue a family of ducks. Ryan Rangel spotted a duckling in distress, Kim C helped with access to the roof and brought the little ducklings their first tub of water. Natalia will go down in history for taking the duckling’s home. I am happy to say that the ducklings are thriving. Natalia said that they prefer grated hard-boiled eggs with oats and their day consists of swimming, eating, and pooping, so their lives are good!! Rob unfortunately lost a bet when he didn’t believe Natalia when she said the duckling Ryan found fell from the roof onto the 2 nd story balcony but eventually found the remainder 5 ducklings up there. Just more proof to always listen to Natalia!!!
