At the company banquet that eve ning, Mr. LeTourneau was asked to speak. Knowing of what had hap pened at the sales meeting, and think ing to bring home, to the group, and particularly tq those who were not Christians, the testimony of God’s grace toward those who accept salva tion as it is in Jesus Christ, he retold : thé story of the mission meeting and the design of the power control unit. Several of the men present were of the group of workmen who had waited for Mr. LeTourneau to work out that design. There was a hushed silence as he said: “ You ' sat around discussing our . competitor’s machine and found out there was one thing about it which puts it out of the running with our product. I’m here to tell you that the one feature which lifts it out of com petition -is the unit I designed the night I returned from the mission. God help_ us to believe and put His will into oür hearts.”

should not have been. At length, he said: “All right, Lord; I’ll go. I don’t know what I’ll do tomorrow, but I’ll go, I promised I would and'I will.” ■ He went to the mission meeting and returned home about ten o'clock. His home was not far from the plant. Thinking of the part which had to be designed, he began to wonder what he ought to do. The thought of trying to design anything that night didn’t appeal to him because he felt his mind ought to be fresh and alert to work out the thing which he wanted to be an original and effective part of the machine. Such things are not done, he felt, when the mind is half awake. The more h e :thought of it, the more hopeless it seemed. Becoming more and more concerned, he went to the plant and sat down at his drafting board. He hadn’t been there ten minutes before the entire design flashed before his mind’s eye, complete and perfect. He made his calculations, put them on paper, and left his instructions for the men to start the work of making the unit when they came to work in the morn ing. Then he went to bed. The design which Robert LeTour- neau worked out in about ten min utes’ time that night after he returned from the mission-is the vital part of the main control unit with which all machines made by the company have been equipped from that day to the present. The far-reaching significance of LeTourneau’s invention that night is revealed in the following story: A number of years after the inci dent described, LeTourneau salesmen from all parts of the world met at the company’s annual sales meeting in Peoria, 111. Many of them were much concerned over news that had just been received that a very large com pany—ten times larger than the Le Tourneau company at that time—was to be a competitor, having just put out a machine similar to the machines made by LeTourneau. A long discus sion ensued in which some uneasiness manifested itself among.the salesmen until a few of them, who had seen the competing machine,'explained that its power control unit was in no way to be compared with the power control unit of the LeTourneau machine.
