MEET OUR HEROES
THE TRIBE BRAVES
Karen Pike: The invisible Karen is the ghostly fool who cleans the police station. Karen looks no one in the eye, says nothing, and obeys all orders. She is skinny and rheumatic. Karen cannot hide the bruises on her arms. It seems like her work coat comes from the most imperfect flea market in Murmansk. Nevertheless, she likes that it complies with the Apostolic Laestadian parish’s rules of dressing as an honourable woman. Karen is mother to Juha and Matti. She is about sixty years old and the grand matriarch of the family. She’s a caregiver, and the biased police authority regards her as a victim. In reality, she is the one person who has always known what is required when the family’s survival is at stake. Karen is in fact the hidden commander - Fist of God - of the United Clans of the Arctic. Not even the closest family members know about her secret role. Juha: The younger brother, aka “The Mongol” At twenty-three years old, Juha is teased by his uncles as being an “unpolished diamond”. The reindeer fur Juha inherited from his father is still too big. Juha’s father’s sudden death came as a surprise and led to everything going wrong. Juha’s strength is his creativity. He solves many problems with unortho- dox, unique methods. He’s an idealistic dreamer with too much empathy. Juha wants to help the troubled movers of the Pikes family to find peace and inner balance through mediation, and he insists on seeing the bigger picture before making any rushed decisions. Juha hates lies and doesn’t live up to the omertà culture of the clan. Instead, he speaks openly about their secrets. Friends, enemies and self-appointed chief candidates are waiting for his failure - or the best moment to stab him in the back. Matti: The older brother, aka “The Dentist” Matti is twenty-nine years old. He is fair-haired and looks like an office clerk compared to the other braves. He likes to shoot from the hip and ask questions later. Matti is a ruthless pragmatist with few moral qualms when it comes to getting the job done. The nomadic law is on his side since he is the oldest son. According to this unwritten law, he should have been the one who became the new patriarch, but evil rumours claim he was born out of lawful wedlock. Long ago, when the road was built, many strangers lived in barracks. His mother worked there as a chambermaid for the construction company. When she married his father, he was already a few years old.
