Robyn Smith - President/Publisher: rsmith@nvpublications.com Len Prazych - Vice President Plus, the U.S. Navy would protect the seas allowing for vessels to move in safety. Ships could move goods from one country to the other freely, without worry of physical attack, protected by the United States. No other country has the naval power that comes close to equaling the U.S. CONTINUED ON PAGE 66 This is the wine you hide when your kids come home for a visit. Over the last four or five decades, the term “globaliza- tion” has become common. We have moved manufactur- ing from the United States overseas. We have changed our buying habits, allowing acceptance of foreign goods. Let me say I am not at all opposed to international trade. Adam Smith had it right. The British make, although per- haps not trend-setting, wool jackets better than the French. And the French certainly make wine better than the British. That’s because of the competitive advantage in geography. The French have the soil to grow grapes, and the British grow sheep and can weave fabric while it rains outside. They simply traded wine for jackets, and jackets for wine. Everybody is happy. What Adam Smith may not have been able to see is the ease of transportation and movement of goods today. Peter Zeihan is one of my favorite authors. He has writ- ten several books and I’ve read them all. Zeihan says, and I tend to agree, one significant reason for the expansion of global trade is the Bretton Woods agreement at the end of WWII. The United States would open its markets and wanted everyone to trade with each other, including for- mer enemies. This made sense, as the U.S. market was not damaged during the war.
