FIAT CHRYSLER SHOWCASES NEW HYBRID ELECTRIC JEEPS At the recent annual CES technology confer- ence in Las Vegas three new hybrid electric Jeep models are made their domestic debuts. Showing that Fiat Chrysler plans to electrify all vehicles of the iconic SUV brand by 2022. The automaker is showing off plug-in hybrid electric versions of the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade, which all feature a new “4xe” badge — a play on Jeep’s reputation as a 4x4 off-road brand. The vehicles are expected to assist Fiat Chrysler in meeting U.S. fuel economy standards and help in reshaping the brand’s gas-guzzling SUV image. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, or PHEVs, tradi- tionally offer a range of all-electric driving before a traditional internal combustion engine is needed. That compares to all-electric vehicles that do not use any fossil fuels. Fiat Chrysler currently offers the Chrysler Pacifica minivan as its only PHEV in the U.S.

JETBLUE TO USE ALTERNATIVE FUEL SOURCE JetBlue Airways Corp released that it would use an alternative fuel source for flights leaving from San Francisco and plans to curb carbon dioxide emissions from jet fuel for domestic flights as it aims to reduce its carbon footprint. The aviation industry has been trying to combat climate change by trying to cut its greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2050 compared with 2005 levels and sees the emergence of lower-carbon biofuels as a vital step towards meeting this goal. The industry’s plan rests on a mix of alternative fuel, improved operations such as direct flight paths, new planes and other technologies. JetBlue in its attempt to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will favor renewable sources and will start using sustainable aviation fuel in mid-2020 on flights from San Francisco International Airport, but has not mentioned if any other airports will be a part of the plan to reduce greenhouse gas emis- sions.
