If you want to challenge yourself when learning another language, I have a few tips for you: If you’re researching for a project or presenta- tion, research in the local language It may take much longer, but this is a great way to expand your vocabulary and will expose you to proper prepositions and cases used in different contexts Use a dictionary instead of a translator I find that it paints a better picture in your head, and it was easier to remember the word in the long term Choose a more complex or unfamiliar topic for assignments I think being able to simplify concepts and explain them on an elementary level is a great skill and learning strategy for a foreign language Practice speaking with a native speaker This one is a given, but it may be the most diffi- cult one to implement because most people can speak English Quite a few exchange students actually do not speak any German at all, but it’s great to practice with those who do.

I have also learned a German football chant: Auf geht’s FC Augsburg, schiess’ ein Tor!
