no acquittal of anyone. The reason is because such an individual who has rejected Christ will be stand ing there on his own merit. He does not have a defense attorney much less a substitute to take his place. If you refuse Cod's Attor ney, God's Advocate, the Lord Je sus Christ now, you will have to be your own attorney at the judg ment throne of the Almighty. You know the old saying in the legal profession, "A man who is his own attorney has a fool for a client." If you have rejected Christ as your Advocate, you will most certainly be there to be judged, but you will not have a leg to stand on. Charles Haddon Spurgeon said, "Sooner should a fish live on a tree than the wicked in paradise with God. They must be born again from above." Mark these words very carefully, "The ungodly shall not stand in the judgment." They will not have an opportunity. They will not be in the congregation of the righteous. In our church congregations on Sunday we will have people from many different walks of life. There are those who are saved and those who are not. The congregation is mixed. But it will not be like that in eternity. The dividing line is man's eternal destiny. It is all de termined by what he has done in this life with Jesus Christ. What we have in this verse is the definite judgment, spoken of so clearly in Cod's Word. You cannot live like the devil here on this earth without living with the devil for all eter nity. As Vance Havner so pointedly said, "Those who live it up will also have to live it down." Dr. Wilbur Penfield, director of the Montreal Neurological Institute,
chaff will never produce wheat, it will not even grow more chaff. It is worthless. It is dead. It is with out substance. So the Bible is say ing that this is the picture of the ungodly. Here is the person who has not been justified before Cod. He is dead, spiritually speaking. Originally this chaff surrounded the wheat. It just enveloped the seed completely. Are we writing to some husband who has in his home a godly wife, and yet who, himself has never made a profession of Jesus Christ as personal Saviour? You and your family have been so close. You have been so inter ested in the affairs of your wife and children. You have been so con cerned and yet you are still in God's sight as chaff, dry, worthless, dead. You have never been born again. Wind in Scripture we know to be a picture of the Holy Spirit. This reminds us that He who gently calls you today in the blessed in vitation of God someday will, in judgment, drive away all these, in cluding you, who have not by faith received Jesus Christ as Saviour. The word for "wind" here is not some summer breeze or even a chilling winter blast. It is a whirl wind. It is based on the complete destruction and devastation that comes thereby. "The ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous." We should be reminded that this verse does not tell us that such a person will not "appear" at the judgment but simply that he will not be able to stand in that grave hour. The unquestioned teaching here is cer tainly that the ungodly will be judged but there will be absolutely
