The BEST GREEN PROJECT of 2020
IMC Construction Penn Medicine Advanced Outpatient Care Center
JZA+D 30 Maclean Princeton, NJ
Walters Cornerstone at Seaside Heights Seaside Heights, NJ
Radnor, PA Size: 250,000 s/f Level: Silver
Size: 7,600 s/f Level: Gold
Level: Platinum A 91-unit income-restricted community built on a redevel- oped site, involving the demolition of several aging buildings to create the barrier island’s only new large-scale residential building for seniors. Specific green features include increased pervious surface which improved the quality and control of the storm water discharge and the addition of drought tolerant, indigenous landscaping. The building is designed to withstand 125mph winds. The lowest floor elevation was brought up to 8’, 1’ above the highest referenced Flood Elevation (BFE). The building has a slab foundation, with no enclosed spaces below, limiting moisture infiltration, and on-site parking is above the BFE.
This project converts a historic meeting house near the center of Princeton, previously used by a local Freema- sons chapter, to new use as a mixed-income multifamily residence. Designed by local architecture firm JZA+D for developer Princeton Maclean LLC, the deal introduced much-needed new residential units in this quiet, walkable area while preserving both the neighborhood character and one of its most iconic buildings. The gut renovation cre- ated ten studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom loft-style apart- ments, ranging from 500 to 1000 square feet, while the ex- terior was restored and an elevator tower added. The residence achieved Gold certification under LEED for Homes.
The University of Pennsylvania’s Advanced Outpatient Care is a 250,000 s/f state-of-the-art multispecialty facility. This facility houses a heart and vascular center, comprehensive cancer care, women’s health, orthopedic and rehabilitation medicine, neurosciences and other medical subspecialties. The surgery suite includes six surgical and four endoscopy rooms, along with full radiology and laboratory services. The health center and adjacent 994-car parking garage are within walking distance of the Radnor train station. The building fea- tures natural light throughout and a courtyard which brings beautiful nature views to its patients, families, and staff. This building is targeted for a sustainability level LEED Silver.
